WHY? Because November is often a long, dark, cold, hard-working month, we thought: Let’s get AEGEE people’s out of their routine and invite them in Northen Spain, to gain ENERGY!

WHO? Ohh… a bunch of nice Spanish people and awesome European participants =)

More seriously, AEGEE-Bilbao and the Netcom team are planning together 3 days of intense activities and even more intense parties.

Uhm… what are you really going to do?

- Network and exchange new ideas and projects with people from close (or less close) antennas. In a word: COOPERATE!

- Learn more about the European level and how to motivate new members to get there

- Attend workshops about AEGEE current challenges and projects

- Discovering Bilbao and its surroundings, Spanish and Basque culture, food and drinks.

How to reach Bilbao? Bilbao has a great International Airport! But maybe you can find cheaper flights with Easyjet (Bilbao) or Ryanair (though Santander(1h) or Madrid(4,5h).

Bilbao’s Aste Nagusia, named the 1st Treasure of Spanish Unphysical Cultural Heritage.

Get ready to party till dawn with over 100.000 people in the streets of our city, which are lined with marquees from various bars and societies, all accompanied by booming sound systems.

But the streets are not the only witnesses of the crowd, which also invades different locations and premises. There are free live music performances on stages in squares and churches throughout the city every single night. Did you ever imagine a concert just next to the Guggenheim museum?

Experience the attraction of the astonishing firework displays that light up the night sky every day at midnight, hosted each night by a different nation.

But that’s not all. During these days you will:

have time to relax in a beach of our magnificent coast, enjoying our perfect August weather of around 20-25 degrees, not cold and not stifling
discover the ancient traditions and customs of Basque culture

Bilbao celebrates its Basque heritage with this vibrant fiesta in August. The inhabitants and visitors of Bilbao take the streets in Bilbao’s Aste Nagusia (Semana Grande or Big Week) celebrations. Its passion for food is reflected in one of the most popular Basque customs: the “txikiteo” or “poteo”, especially common in Bilbao. While you drink a “txikito” -small glass of wine- or “zurito” -small glass of beer-, you can see, at certain times of the day, a lot of city dwellers going from one bar to another having their “pintxos”, appetizers made up of various ingredients, from the simplest and most traditional to the most sophisticated and imaginative food delights.

¿Cómo? A través de una Open Call.
Las Open Calls son plazas libres que se ofertan de determinadas SUs y a las que cualquier miembro de AEGEE (haya sido rechazado o alguien que ni siquiera haya mandado solicitud anteriormente) se puede apuntar. Para ello hay que hacerlo de la misma manera que para aplicar a una SU, a través de la pagina web oficial (www.aegee.org/su), pero con la diferencia de que en esta fase no hay fecha límite para aplicar ni preselecciones, sino que a medida que los organizadores de dicha SU vayan leyendo las nuevas aplicaciones a través de Open Calls decidirán directamente si aceptan o no al candidato.

Hemos pensado en subir el montecillo el último domingo de este mes, es decir, el día 30 de mayo. La idea sería quedar sobre las 9 o cuando se pueda, dependiendo de la hora a la que los asistentes dejen de ver/celebrar Eurovision la noche anterior. Subir, comer un bocata (llevado por cada uno desde su casita, residencia, casa del novio, de la novia…) y bajar prontito, para (ya cada uno a su aire) ver la carrera de F1 (si hay), ir de pintxos (y reponer más fuerzas de la dura travesía) o estudiar (lo último, pero no por ello menos importante, ¡¡vagos!!).

Entre mordisco y mordisco de bocata o trago y trago de una cervecita fresquita, hemos pensado en compartir experiencias sobre las Summer, de gente que haya estado ya o planes de la gente que va a ir en las próximas semanas.

Todo depende también del tiempo que haga, pero el plan es éste, abierto a todo tipo de ideas y sugerencias o alternativas. La actividad es abierta, es decir, no hace falta ser socio de AEGEE para participar.
